Inspiration Station...All Aboard!

Inspiration Station...All Aboard!

Doesn’t that sound like the best School House Rock episode ever?!? Sorry, but I couldn’t resist.

I am always looking for new ideas and ways to creatively use items I already have. So, I thought it would be fun to put together this list of places I go first for design and decor inspiration!

EMAIL NEWSLETTER: DOMINO

You guys…I don’t know who is writing the headlines of their online articles over there, but I swear I click on almost every article in every email they send me. They are doing some kind of mind-reading voodoo in their content department, and I don’t hate it. I love their short and specific articles, and I get constant inspiration from what their other readers are doing. They always seem to know what I was planning on searching for my new house, and just serve it right up to me in an email before I even knew I wanted to read about it!

MAGAZINE: HGTV

I had to go with the old tried and true on this one. I have subscribed to this magazine for as long as I can remember, and it never disappoints. I have been loving the use of bold color lately, and the way they showcase renovated spaces (like whole houses, guys!). The color features are definitely my favorites, but I’m also a sucker for the furniture DIYs and the “High/Low List.”

TV: BARGAIN MANSIONS

I can’t make this list without giving props to a local who is doing her fair share to bring life back into some old KC properties…Tamara Day (and Ward, too)…I see you! I wait for your show to air every week like a 90s kid before DVR existed. Not only does it tug at my locavore heartstrings to see these properties in my hometown being fixed up, but I love the lack of drama that almost always plagues these renovation shows. She outlines the amount she paid for the house, what the reno cost, and what she is listing it for at the end of the episode. Very cut and dry, and VERY worth your time if you appreciate old properties, some extravagant details, and the occassional too-big-to-be-true kitchen island.

BLOG: A BEAUTIFUL MESS

I have been an avid fan of this blog since I was fresh out of college (which was over 10 years ago, but we aren’t talking about it). Started by two sisters (Emma & Elsie) in Springfield, MO, this blog covers everything from home decor to clean makeup to DIY projects. They have moved a few times, gone through some big life changes, and added lots of talented staff, and their blog archive is basically a cool kid encyclopedia for anything your Palm Beach-loving heart desires (although they both live in the Midwest). Just trust me on this one and go get lost! They also have a fairly new podcast that I’ve been loving.

PODCAST: YOUNG HOUSE LOVE HAS A PODCAST

This husband and wife duo also have a blog, but I only know them through their podcast. They are hilarious and they are really inventive with the segments and topics they cover. Their backstories working at ad agencies really hit home for me, too. I actually heard about this podcast from Elsie of A Beautiful Mess (see above), because she said that it was her favorite podcast. I’m still deep in the archives (somewhere in 2018), but I listen every time I’m in the car or while I’m renovating the new place. Obsessed much? Probably.

WHO ARE YOUR FAVES? Let me know who I left out that is rocking their content game! I’m always on the hunt for great inspiration!
